Paying for your care yourself

If you don’t have health insurance, or you choose not to use it, you can pay for your care yourself. Call (310) 326-2161 before your appointment to ask about current self-pay prices for the visit, tests or procedures you’re considering at our Torrance office.

Tests or procedures added during a visit, and services from an outside lab or imaging center, may have separate charges. Ask about these too, so you know what to expect.

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you don’t have insurance or aren’t using it, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges:

  • If you schedule care at least 3 business days ahead, you should receive a written estimate within 1 business day after scheduling.
  • If you schedule at least 10 business days ahead, you should receive it within 3 business days after scheduling.
  • You can also ask for an estimate before you schedule. You should receive it within 3 business days after you ask.
  • If your bill is at least $400 more than the estimate from that provider, you can dispute the bill.

Keep a copy of your estimate. Learn more on our Good Faith Estimate page, visit cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers, or call the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.

If you have Medicare or Medi-Cal

If you have Medicare or Medi-Cal, tell us before your visit. Different billing rules apply to these programs, and our team will explain what that means for your care.

Financing

CareCredit, a health and wellness credit card, may be available for eligible services. It is subject to credit approval, so review its terms carefully and ask us which services it can be used for.

Low-cost care and coverage resources

Common questions

Can I see a doctor without insurance?

Yes. You can pay for your visit yourself. Call (310) 326-2161 to ask about current self-pay prices for the care you need, and ask for a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges. If you schedule at least 3 business days ahead, you should receive one in writing.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

It’s a written estimate of the expected charges for your care, for patients who don’t have insurance or aren’t using it. It should list the items and services you’re expected to receive from that provider. Other providers, such as an outside lab, may give you separate estimates.

What if my bill is higher than my Good Faith Estimate?

If your bill is at least $400 more than the estimate from that provider, you can dispute the bill. Keep your estimate, because you’ll need it to start a dispute. For help, visit cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.

I have Medicare or Medi-Cal. Can I pay out of pocket?

Please tell us about your coverage before your visit. Different billing rules apply to Medicare and Medi-Cal, so our team will explain your options before any care is scheduled. Bring your Medicare or Medi-Cal card to every visit so we can check your coverage.

Do you offer financing?

CareCredit may be available for eligible services. CareCredit is a health and wellness credit card, and it is subject to credit approval. Ask us which services it can be used for before you apply, and review the card’s terms carefully.

Where can I find low-cost care nearby?

Community health centers offer primary care with costs based on your income. You can search for one near you with HRSA’s Find a Health Center tool. You can also visit Covered California to see whether you qualify for health coverage and help paying for it.

Important information
