About the Peninsula cities
The Palos Verdes Peninsula is home to four cities. According to the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates incorporated in 1939, and Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates both incorporated in 1957. Rancho Palos Verdes became the Peninsula’s fourth city after voters approved cityhood in an election on August 28, 1973.
Rancho Palos Verdes owns the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, about 1,500 acres spread across 15 reserves, which it co-manages with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. By U.S. Census Bureau figures, Rancho Palos Verdes covers about 13.5 square miles of land, Palos Verdes Estates about 4.8 and Rolling Hills Estates about 3.6. All three are part of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s South Bay Service Planning Area, SPA 8.
Before you start a new exercise routine
