About Lomita

Lomita’s name comes from the Spanish for “little hills,” according to the City of Lomita’s history page. Truck farming was a way of life for many residents in the 1930s, when the area was known as the “Celery Capital of the World.”

Lomita incorporated as a city on June 30, 1964. Today it covers less than two square miles, based on figures from the city and the U.S. Census Bureau. The city’s history also notes that the old Lomita Flight Strip is now Zamperini Field, the Torrance Municipal Airport, which sits a short distance from our office.

Why a regular family doctor helps

MedlinePlus, from the U.S. National Library of Medicine, explains that a primary care provider offers preventive care, finds and treats common medical conditions, helps you judge how urgent a problem is, and refers you to other doctors when needed. Seeing one provider over time builds an ongoing relationship.

For Lomita families, Dr. Shin offers:

In the same office, our physician-directed skin and laser clinic offers services such as laser hair removal and mole, wart and skin tag removal. Treatment begins with an in-person evaluation, and results vary.
