Why a family doctor matters

A family doctor is your first stop for staying healthy and for most health concerns. When the same physician sees you year after year, small changes — a creeping blood pressure, a rising blood sugar, a new mole — are easier to notice early, often before they cause symptoms.

Dr. Shin’s approach is simple: an ongoing, personal relationship with one physician who knows your history, your lifestyle and the health of your family. That continuity is what family medicine is built on.

What we can help with

  • Prevention: yearly physicals, age-appropriate screening recommendations and vaccine reviews.
  • Ongoing conditions: follow-up for concerns such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar.
  • Women’s and men’s health: annual exams, Pap tests, prostate exams, pregnancy tests and confidential STD testing.
  • Children: checkups and physical exams.
  • Testing: ECGs, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and lab work — some tests can be done in our office, and others are sent to an outside lab or imaging center. We’ll tell you where your test is done.
  • Minor procedures: cyst and mole removal, skin biopsies and joint or soft-tissue injections when appropriate.

If you need a specialist, Dr. Shin will help coordinate your referral and keep your care connected.

Common questions

What is the difference between family medicine and internal medicine?

Family medicine physicians are trained to care for people of all ages, from children to older adults. Internal medicine physicians focus on adults. Dr. Shin practices family medicine, so parents, children and grandparents can all be seen at the same practice.

Why do I need a physical exam if I feel fine?

Many common conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar, often cause no symptoms until they are advanced. Regular checkups help find problems early, update vaccines and screening tests, and give you a doctor who already knows you if you get sick.

What if I don’t have insurance?

We offer self-pay options, and you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before your visit. See uninsured and self-pay care.

Do you speak Korean?

Yes — Dr. Shin speaks English and Korean. Japanese-language assistance has been available; please call ahead. Free interpreter services are available in any language.
